Job Title: School Psychologist
Department: Special Services
Pay Grade: E210
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Assistant Director III – Special Services
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is responsible for measuring and interpreting the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children; interpreting results of psychological studies; interpreting and applying state and federal codes; and developing strategies and interventions to address the special education needs of eligible students.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Administers standardized and/or supplemental assessments measuring the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children and/or determining eligibility for services in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assesses student’s functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment determining student's functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement.
  • Assists in the completion of special education documentation delivering services in compliance to established guidelines, rules, law and regulations.
  • Communicates with students and/or parents with teachers and/or other personnel evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Compiles information from a variety of sources producing a comprehensive evaluation report in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
  • Coordinates with community agencies including medical, judicial, social service and mental health services determining appropriate services to meet the needs of specific students.
  • Counsels students, parents and guardians enhancing student success in school.
  • Develops behavior plans, curriculum modifications, etc. implementing treatment programs.
  • Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. meeting special education assessment guidelines and/or creating Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Implements school wide program development and program evaluation ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties.
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares a wide variety of materials documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Researches resources and methods determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university, required.
  • Doctorate Degree from an accredited college or university, preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of job related experience is required.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
  • School Psychologist Missouri Teaching certification and/or Licensed Psychologist, required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain “Highly Qualified” status as defined by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, required.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions and create action plans.
  • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: psychology and educational principles; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
  • Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including pertinent computer software; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
  • Ability to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; working with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to set high expectations for self and others; set and monitor progress toward goals; and utilize and offer effective feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work as part of a team; adapt to changing priorities; and apply logical processes and analytical skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is sedentary work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
